Current Mood: Cool

For a combined birthday/Mother’s day present, I bought myself an iTouch a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had a lot of fun playing with it, and I’m actually writing this post on it. Mind you, I had to ask A to install the latest version of WordPress to be able to do it!

So why an iTouch rather than an iPhone? Well, I have a work phone, which I can use for personal calls, so it seemed a bit redundant to get an iPhone, either on a plan or outright. I’m hoping that by using the iTouch on the wireless network at home, it will extend the life of my poor old laptop – rather than carrying it all over the house, I’ll just take the iTouch. I can use it at uni, my favourite cafes and if I’m desperate, McDonalds. I’ve also found several apps that I can use offline, as well as the games of course.

The only problems is that I’m not the only one who likes it. A will often steal it to play a game called Angry Birds, while the kids like it to play various games I’ve uploaded on it for them. I can use it as a bribe for Willow – she has to unload the dishwasher before she gets a turn, but Dexie isn’t quite at that stage yet. Don’t worry, I’ve got a case and a skin on it!

I’ve known of NaNoWriMo for some time now, but it’s not something I’ve ever felt I could commit to, plus I have no illusions that my writing is any good. However, I stumbled across NaBloPoMo, which is far more palatable. I can do a blog post every day, right?!

I want to get this blog out there a bit more, increase it’s profile, so I’ve also joined BlogHer. It’s a community for female blog writers, which looks interesting. Obviously very American, but that’s to be expected I suppose. In my time online, I’ve been a member of many different communities. Public and private forums, blog communities and so on. It’s actually how I met A – we were both writing blogs and were connected to the Adelaide Blogging scene. Funny to think how long ago that was. Nearly 6 years now. I’m just looking at a list of Adelaide blogs now and some of the people who were writing back then are still going. I found this intriguing blog… Gotta love a blogger who uses obscure U2 lyrics as post titles.

Thinking that no-one would want to read about your everyday life is a kind of cultural cringe. I’m a 30 something parent, partner, employee, friend, family member, random stranger on the interwebz. I like… stuff… My life is similar to many people’s lives, but it’s also different. Gah, I know what I mean…

It is nearly 11.30pm now. After our failed trip to the beach, Willow is in bed beside me, asleep. Dexie just woke up after going to bed at 8pm. He came down for a quick feed, then hopped off the bed to go up to Daddy in the lounge room. His self-assured wave goodbye is priceless.

Oh and the mystery of Dexie’s photo has been solved. My friend sent through another photo, this one of Willow -they were taken at another child’s birthday party. It was back in April, which is 7 months ago now!

I wanted to do something different with her hair that day…

Failed trip to the beach, you ask? Urgh. We drove down Grand Junction Road to Semaphore, but it seemed like half of Adelaide had the same idea. I finally found a park, got the pram out and A pumped up the tyres. Walked all the way back down to the fish and chip shop we’d driven past. Queued up amongst the masses of people and became slightly more misanthropic. Got food and walked off. Child complained of having a sore tummy and wanted to go hoooooooooome. Said child had bugged me to leave for the beach since I announced that we were going. Once child got back to the car she said she wanted to go to the beach. Too late, sweetheart.

Loaded dinner, toddler and child into car and drove off, very cross. Got past the intersection of Grand Junction Road and Main North Road when child vomits all over car. A deals with her while I console Dexie who is upset by this. I suffer intense guilt. We get home and she is fine, hasn’t thrown up since.

Next time we hit the beach, I think I’ll just take Dexie.
