Sewing!

Posted January 24th, 2010 by candi

I don’t know what it is about the new year, but I’m not the only one who has started sewing more! My friend Tigerfilly has been at the machine too. The pattern for this pincushion was in the Sew Hip magazine. It looked too cute to pass up – a nice easy project. This green [...]

Sewing stuff

Posted January 23rd, 2010 by candi

I haven’t posted for awhile – I’ve been trying to sort out the spare room. It has become a bit of a dumping ground for anything we don’t currently need, which means a bit of baby stuff, heaters/fans, books, geneology info, a large coffee table that is not practical with kids, a spare dining table, [...]

Macarons

Posted January 6th, 2010 by candi

No, not macaroons, which is what the spell checker wants to correct it to – macarons. In my occasional quest to try cooking something new, I wanted to bake macarons. Apparently they are not easy to make, but I think I did a good job. I followed the grams of this recipe for precision – [...]

Giveaways?

Posted December 20th, 2009 by candi

I entered this giveaway – along with 350 other people so far. Not sure what my chances are! I chose the green ones in the top row if anyone wants to take pity on me. In the new year, I may do some kind of give away, possibly of earrings. They are so easy to [...]

Choc-o-lit Sloo-Flay

Posted December 20th, 2009 by candi

Yesterday afternoon I melted a block of Whittaker’s hazelnut chocolate in a glass souffle dish, separated some eggs, whisked the whites and beat in the yellows with the cooled chocolate. Mixed some of the whites in with the yolk/chocolate mixture, then folded the rest in gently. It turned out ok – far lighter than a [...]

Etsy!

Posted December 8th, 2009 by candi

I have this love hate relationship with Etsy. I browse through the site thinking… I could make that, if I had the time, money and equipment. I have done silversmithing before and I like to dabble in jewellery making. So when I saw this seller’s shop, I was inspired. I took apart 4 different watches [...]

Look what I made!

Posted November 26th, 2009 by candi

Today was my day off – which really didn’t end up being that much of a day off, since I dropped Dexie off at 10am, picked Willow up at 2.50pm and made one long phone call to work in that time. My plan for the day was to buy Christmas cards, sit down at a [...]

Cake it away!

Posted October 11th, 2009 by candi

I baked today – boy did I bake! I made the big birthday cake for Dexter and the cheeseburger cupcakes. For Dexie’s cake I used the Magnolia cupcakes recipe because it makes a large quantity – it filled my lasagne pan easily. The butter and the sugar creamed together, with one egg. I made one [...]

Making things…

Posted October 5th, 2009 by candi

Awhile ago I made some little bags out of material – they are used to take dry snacks like biscuits and dried fruit to work/school/FDC. I’ve been using them with great success, saving financially and environmentally. Plus they are super cute. On Saturday I made one wrap-n-mat and one enclosed sandwich bag. I had a [...]

Chicken soup.

Posted October 4th, 2009 by candi

I love the idea of getting more than one meal for my time in the kitchen and this chicken soup is a good example. I love a good free range chicken, I usually get a nice little one from the Markets for $6.00. A is quite fussy about the meat he eats and of a [...]
