Felt Sushi

Posted February 28th, 2010 by candi

I am always nervous about giving something I’ve made as a gift. In the past they haven’t been appreciated, but I’ve made 3 sets of bags and aprons for Willow’s recent birthday parties. I’ve included something with each of them and this time I made some felt sushi. I’d never made any before, so I hope the birthday girl likes it.

I started off with a whole mess of felt and an old Country Road jumper. The jumper had been felted by washing it twice in hot water and drying it in the dryer. It had been sitting there for awhile, I wasn’t sure what I could make that needed to be dark green, but it was perfect for sushi.

The end result. I was going to do a prawn sushi, but I ran out of time!

A Californian Roll and Chicken Teriyaki Roll. Plus the plastic grass, a pickled ginger rose, a soy sauce fish and a packet of wasabi.

We were running late for the party, so A took photos of them while I had a shower!

The party was good – I felt for the birthday girls mother – it was held at the local swimming pool but the weather was cold and blustery. Willow didn’t want to get in until we were about to leave! By then the wind had settled down.

Note: The material I tested yesterday was from my mother’s stash. She’d used it to make a smocked shirt that she was very proud of. I think it is a lawn cotton.
