Wordy Weekend

Posted February 27th, 2010 by candi

Last night we went to a Parents and Friends BBQ at school. Dexie was tired and grumpy, so I didn’t think we’d last long, but A distracted him. It was a fantastic night – all Junior families were invited, so I had a chance to speak to parents at different stages of their child’s schooling.

Dexie actually appropriated someone else’s football (mental note – take a ball along for him next time!) I finally took it back by encouraging him to kick it to me and walking to where he’d found it. I got talking to someone and he too off with it again and the owner of the ball found him with it. He wasn’t very willing to give it up.

Eventually I distracted him again and pointed him towards a group of children with a ball. There were about seven or eight of them, probably between nine and eleven years old. I totally expected Dexie to wander over there and just watch them. Of course, being the stubborn little thing that he is, he wanted to join in. It’s a credit to the children, their parents and the school that they let him play with them. They were very good with him.

Sewing link of the day: Sew Tessuti. This is a very inspiring blog. I have been browsing lots of different sewing blogs, but I keep forgetting them. This is a good way to keep track of them!

I am making a third apron/bag combination for another birthday party tomorrow. The pattern I’ve used is this Montessori one. By now I could almost make it with my eyes closed! I have adjusted it a bit, I’ve made the neck strap longer, 22 inches and both the straps wider at 4 inches. Also, I cut a bit of flare on this one.

I am experimenting with making some eggs to go with the present. Not really impressed with how they are turning out – very fiddly. I love these fabrics though.

Going through my stash I found some fabric. I wasn’t sure if it was polyester or cotton, so I did the burn test. As you can see by the charring, it is a cotton!

A decided to photobomb me! Man-made materials tend to melt, while natural materials burn.

We made some banana and plum muffins this morning.

Willow wanted to play with one of her birthday presents, a plaster fairy kit. A put Dexie down for his nap, so we took the opportunity to break it out.

Look at the toddler tummy on her!
