Kanga-ranga-roo!
After my drive with the kids last week, I thought we could actually go to the Humbug Scrub Sanctuary. Of course, in the morning we had our usual lie around the house – except I was doing some sewing – so we didn’t get going until about 2.30pm.
On the way I told A about the kangaroo we saw last time. Dexie calls them Kanga-ranga-roos!
It was a hot day, so we didn’t spend much time there, or take any photos! This is the only photo A took:
The main attraction for Willow was the emus. They were semi-wild, but knew to come when there was food around. Willow fed them bread and pellets – she was even brave enough to pat one. I patted one too – they feel very rough. We also saw some wallabies, cape barren geese, corellas, sulphur crested cockatoos and galahs. The last two were very good at encouraging people to come over and talk to them.
One creature that had us puzzled was a red deer. He had no horns and his face was quite broad, not at all delicate. We figured it for some kind of strange African animal, but their website says red deer. Being the middle of summer, it was quite brown and dry out there.
