December 19 Car ride. What did you see? How did it smell? Did you eat anything as you drove there? Who were you with?
I actually have an interesting one for this. Funnily enough, I had to ask A* about it and he wasn’t even with me! As I’ve posted previously, in the middle of the year, I went on a work trip to Canberra. I had been there once, as a child with my parents. Feeling slightly frustrated that I didn’t get more of a chance to look around, my colleague and I asked the taxi driver who was to take us to the airport for the scenic tour. We went from where we were staying in Tuggeranong, past Lake Burley Griffin, as far around Parliament House as we could, past some other famous Australian monuments and up Mount Ainslie. From there we went back down to the airport and took off again. It was a $100 fare, but worth it!
Two of my colleagues had caught earlier flights so they could look around or catch up with family, but I didn’t want to leave mine until I had to. On the second morning of the conference I was getting ready in my motel room and watching a morning breakfast show. The presenter was reporting from the front of Parliament House and I thought that I’m seeing more of Canberra on TV than in real life!
*A lived in Canberra in his late teens/early 20s. He seems to have fond memories of the place, which have been transferred to me by sexual osmosis.
