December 6 Workshop or conference. Was there a conference or workshop you attended that was especially beneficial? Where was it? What did you learn?
I went to several workshops/conferences/training sessions this year. I know I’ve already mentioned it, but my trip to Canberra was specifically for a training session on the program I currently work for. Being inspired by a public servant (no offence to my friends who are public servants!) probably doesn’t happen very often. However, I can say that it did happen on this trip. The program I work for is designed to catch people who might otherwise fall through the gaps. The ‘mother’ of my program gave an inspiring talk about how it was created, with those very people in mind. She also told us that the program has been referred to in Federal Parliament – the politicians (on all sides) who are aware of it are keen for it to succeed! I came away from that trip feeling ready for action!
Apart from that I’ve done a few other interesting things this year. A cultural sensitivity workshop was particularly moving, as was the one I went to the other day, which focused on child abuse/protection. This year I’ve also been doing my Certificate IV in Mental Health which has been very interesting. A lot of it was fairly basic, but the most valuable aspect has been speaking to other people – especially those with a lived experience.
