3 Mc Donalds visits in less than 24 hours!

This weekend has been full of contrasts. On Saturday I had my final, well, only exam for the year. A kindly kept the children occupied so that I could sleep in until 8.30am. I probably would have too, but for the heat. The Adelaide Christmas Pagent was on from 9am and my organisation offered their balcony to employees, their families and clients. As much as I would have liked to take Willow and Dexie, I figured that my time was better spent preparing for my exam, which was at 2pm. So, I trundled off to the library for revision and printing of notes (it was an open book exam), negotiating the road closures due to the aforementioned Christmas Pagent!

I got the the Showgrounds, where the exam was being held, at about 1.40pm, but I had wanted to be there sooner to catch up with my friends. Now, this bit is important. I parked the car further away than I’d wanted and it was about 39c, this made for a longer walk in the heat. The exam itself was fine – a couple of questions were ambiguous, but I did my best. Once I’d finished, I needed to use the toilet but the closest ones were reserved for people undertaking the exam and the furthest one had a long line up. McDonalds was just down the road, I could go for a McWee (Thanks Aprill!) and get another drink.

The service station on the corner was my cue to walk down the side street, my car was on the next street over from Goodwood Road. Or so I thought. It wasn’t where I expected it to be, so I spent 10 minutes walking around in the extreme heat with an unhappy bladder. Being an exam, I’d only taken my notes and two pens, so I couldn’t call A – not that he would have been any help. I was decidedly dazed and confused. Had my car been stolen? With everything, the children’s car seats, my bag, my iPod, my phones, the pram… in it?

Feeling wretched and dripping with sweat, I decided to head back to the Showgrounds to see if I could find someone from the exams who would help, or preferably a friend. Thankfully I found the latter, N. We’ve been in the same tutorials and even did a group presentation together. His girlfriend was picking him up, so they were kind enough to drive me around.

We drove around and around. No sign of the car. I started to panic slightly. Being disoriented, I didn’t think to ask her to drive the route that I remember walking to get the the showgrounds, but N is a clever chook and he did. I was just using his phone to call A to let him know why I’d be late when I saw it. As it turned out, I’d parked the car on Rhyl St, which is in the bottom middle of the map above. It’s a bit strange looking at the map now… I was so wrong about where I thought the car was, but I’m usually so good with directions.

In the end, I did stop at the Goodwood and Cross Road McDonalds for a Mc Wee and a frozen raspberry Fanta, then A wanted me to get McDonalds for dinner and I didn’t have the energy to argue. So that was two visits in less than an hour.

Once I got home and ate dinner, I took the kids outside for a bit of a play under the hose. Much fun was had by all. I took them inside, chucked them in a bath/shower because no matter what I did, I couldn’t hose them and send them inside without them getting dirty again. I had a quick shower because as A posted yesterday, I was going out with a friend to celebrate the end of the uni year!

This friend S is someone I met the first time I went to Uni, nearly 10 years ago. We live at opposite ends of the city, so don’t get to catch up as often as we’d like. As we always do, we had a fantastic time. I absolutely love making her laugh, it’s one of the best sounds in my world. We had a late dinner at Sumo Station, then went to a pub and listened to some live music, walked up and down Jetty Road a bit then settled on the foreshore for a D&M. Walking back I decided that a McCoffee was in order so I got a flat white with a shot of butterscotch. Third visit in 12 hours!

I got home at about 3am. Woke A up from the couch and sent him down to the bedroom to sleep. In order for him to have a sleep in, I slept on one of the mattresses in the lounge room and the children slept on the other one. The loungeroom has air conditioning but our bedroom is cooler than the other rooms.

Willow had a birthday party to go to this morning, thankfully it was a pool party held at the birthday girl’s home, so I sat with my legs dangling in the water. Then we did a spot of shopping for a BBQ at a friend’s house. They have a pool, so it was great to go there and cool down. Of course, it was also nice to see them!

I logged into my uni email tonight and found out that we got a Distinction for our group presentation, so that was a nice way to end the weekend.
