Lateral thinking

Posted October 23rd, 2009 by candi

For those of you who don’t know, A has adult ADD. I don’t always find it easy to explain how this affects him, us or our family. I guess I can’t see the forest for the trees. There are some positives to his ADD, he is a very lateral thinker. Again, I find it hard to describe or explain this unless I have specific examples. So I thought I’d write one here.

Dexie got a totem tennis pole for his birthday, he’s gone straight to them if we’ve ever been at a friend’s house with one. It’s set up in the yard and Dexie has had a great time with it so far. Only problem is that the string being so close to the pole means that it would get wrapped around it easily. This frustrated him and resulted in more than a few temper tantrums. A had the bright idea of extending the metal rod that holds the string with an old paint brush that was attached by cable ties (is there anything they can’t do?). This extension means that the string and ball sit further out from the pole, so it doesn’t get tangled so easily.
