Holidays!

Posted October 2nd, 2009 by candi

As of 3pm this afternoon, I was on holidays – woo hoo! This is actually the first time that A and I have planned holidays for the same time, being the second week of school holidays. We haven’t really planned anything – a trip to Melbourne was a possibility, but not now… I do have uni on Thursday, Willow has a birthday party on Wednesday and we are having friends over on Saturday. I also have a case study due on Monday, another case study due on Friday, a group blog and presentation to work on and an exam to study for.

We may take a trip to Victor Harbor, Monarto Zoo or somewhere else nice. Willow would also like to have a sleep over with a friend, but I’m hesitant. For my own selfish reasons of keeping her all to myself, nothing more.

Currently it is quarter past midnight and Willow is still asleep on the couch. Why? Recently I did a chart for Willow on the white board – if she earnt 8 crosses on the chart, she could have the Dora Wii game. Mostly crosses were earned for unloading the dishwasher or loading/unloading the washing machine/dryer. Tonight I gave her the opportunity to earn the last two, but she changed her mind and wanted the Diego Wii game. Fair enough, they are both $40.00.

So we all piled into the car and traipsed through the nearest K-Mart til we found the game. Got home, ate the disgusting fast food I’d given into and put the game on. It’s okay. Perfect for Willow – she doesn’t really get the whole – aim the white thing at the tv to make the things on tv do stuff. I’m pretty sure that Dexie will quickly learn to beat her in most, if not all computer games. However, this game suits her. It is really easy to play and she literally can not die. I have to admit that I enjoyed playing it! Willow played it until she was nearly asleep and for some reason was determined to sleep on the couch tonight. Rather her than me… I should probably go and move her to her bed now.

Some recent photos of the children.

This was Willow’s outfit for Book Week 2009. I made the head piece, the top and the pants – she is supposed to be a Willow Tree Fairy.

This is Dexie, a photo taken on my phone. We were at a lovely organic cafe on the Parade, we’d stopped before his visit to the dentist.

Another Dexie photo – one of my favourites.

I should actually explain why we were going to the dentist. One of those stories that I’ll tell for as long as I live.

Willow has this detangling spray that we use on her hair in the mornings. It smells delicious in a fake sickly way. Dexie, being obsessed with anything his big sister has, likes us to spray it on him too.

Of course, if he gets the bottle, he’s likely to spray it into his mouth or eyes. So we put it up high on the wall unit, but after watching his big sister get things down by climbing on the wall unit, he decided to do the same thing. Except he fell. His two front teeth went through his bottom lip, poor thing. There was blood everywhere, he was hysterical and we couldn’t calm him down, so we headed off to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The doctor said that his teeth were firm but bent back, the wound in his bottom lip would heal on it’s own so there was nothing they could do. This was at the height of the swine flu epidemic, so thankfully his cries and screams meant that we didn’t have to sit in the ED for long.

So his teeth seemed fine, I took him to the dentist to have them checked out (paranoid mother in me won for a change!) she said they were fine but wanted to do an x-ray just in case. The chance of Dexie sitting still for long enough to have an x-ray done was highly unlikely, so that didn’t happend. $40 (not including PHI payment) later, she also said there was nothing she could do.

About a week later he again climbed on something he shouldn’t have – a table at FDC – fell and knocked one of his bent front teeth out. So now he looks like a hillbilly.

This is probably the best photo we have of it. Please ignore the big sister and associated detritus in the background.

I should also add that A and Willow came down with a bad case of the flu, suspected to be swine flu, but no tests were run as the general consensus at the time was that anyone with a case of the flu (they didn’t just have a cold, they were both out of school for a week) had the swine flu.

That photo of Willow and Dexie and what i can only assume is your butt, is lovely. that’s a beautiful pic of Willow. Has she had her hair cut, or was it just the angle?

Haha! That is A’s rear end!

She had it cut when she was 4, but not since then. Obviously it is very long now, down to her bottom. Might get it cut again these school holidays.

Oh Candi, you know, my Caity had a squirty bottle incident too when she was not yet 2! Ours was stupidly ceramic, and she ran off with it, fell over, and cut her hand open. Husband had to bring her in to work to get stitched up!
Dexie makes a cute hillbilly ;)
