The tree in the sky!
I have been in the city for training, this is the 3rd of 4 two day sessions, if that makes sense? Around the training venue, new apartment buildings are being built, so it has been interesting to see the progress over the past two months. One thing we noticed was that on top of one wing, was a little tree. It seemed so incongruous, so out of place – a piece of green on top of so much steel. For some of the people in the group who have a lived experience of mental illness, it seemed like a nice symbol for them and I have to admit that I was quite fond of it.
I got there this morning and one of the group members was out the front smoking. He asked me if I knew why the tree was there with a glint in his eye to indicate that he knew. It turns out that the building company put a tree up there as some kind of compensation/token gesture to the trees removed to clear the site. Seems like a hollow offering, especially since a quick check on google maps reveals that there were no trees there before, it was a computer shop and possibly some old townhouses!
