more cupcakes!

Cupcakes are so popular at the moment, and why wouldn’t they be? Cute, easy to eat and fun to make, there are sooo many varieties out there. We have a plate and bottle night coming up for Willow’s party soon, so I thought I’d do cupcakes in the school colours. Tonight was time for a practice and this is what I came up with.

The school colours are not white, purple and green, but I wanted to experiment with colours. I was going to get fancy and make the school logo, but I don’t have that much patience! I liked the design of neat, cut out, concentric circles the best so I’ll be making 24 of them next week! One of the school colours is yellow/gold, which would be the smallest circle. I was looking for some gold leaf but that might be extravagant, so I’ve decided on gold dust, if I can find some.

I ran out of fondant, so this practice run gave me an idea of how much fondant I’ll need, possibly 4 boxes?! I finished off the rest of the cupcakes with icing and sprinkles.

The rose and leaf were made from leftover fondant. It’s not the neatest, but when I’m doing them for real, I’ll be more precise. Now my fingernails are all stained with food colouring. The recipe I used was the Magnolia Bakery Cupcake recipe, which makes 24 cupcakes, plus enough for a tiny bundt cake. It is the best recipe I’ve ever tasted. Once I made a bread and butter pudding out of some cupcakes we could eat – it was even more delicious.
