Mandarin

Posted April 8th, 2009 by candi

The Family Day Carers who look after Dexie speak Mandarin Chinese at home. I love that he is cared for by a lovely grandmotherly type person and given that I have Chinese ancestors, I liked this link. I was speaking to her tonight and she told me that, essentially, he has very good receptive language when she speaks in English, as well as when she speaks in Mandarin to her husband. Clever Dexie!

At the school he will be attending, they study Spanish from Year 2 to Year 6, then they are offered a choice of languages, Mandarin included. I wish he could learn it all the way through. Failing that, if he continues to show an interest in Mandarin, I’d consider enrolling him in Saturday classes…
