First day of work!

Posted April 1st, 2009 by candi

A was still not well today, so he stayed at home with Willow. She didn’t throw up today and ate toast and dry biscuits and drank water and Gastrolite. When I got home, she had perked up considerably.

I was looking forward to today, the start of a new job with a new program means so many possibilities. In all of my previous jobs I have come in on the tail end of things or had to work through changes handed down from above. My understanding is that we have guidelines from the Funding Body and our organisation, but we can set our own agenda to a large degree.

We also have a nice office to work in, although I have been told it is haunted. I’m not into ghosts, so that doesn’t bother me. Apparently the site used to have a house for nuns on it and the actual building itself used to house youth in transition (naughty boys and girls). Part of the niceness of the office is the people – there is none of the bitchiness and office politics that I have experienced in previous positions. We will be moving offices soon, once there is room at the office within the funded postcodes. Quite a few times I thought it was Monday, which is my uni day and panicked that I was missing uni!

Tomorrow I will be cruising around with another worker getting together a resources folder. We have half a dozen clients waiting (referrals are based on postcode) and I am looking forward to getting a caseload.
