Routines
I am really not a routine type person. I am a Gemini, we are air signs, not grounded at all.
Through work I have a weekly routine, and as a result of work, I seem to have developed a daily routine.
In the mornings I wake up at about 6.30am thanks to A’s alarm. We grumble and whine and cuddle for about another 20 minutes. He then gets up, wakes up Willow and gets in the shower after bringing me Dexter for a feed. I feed Dexie until 7am, 7.10am. By this time A has finished his shower, so I pop Dexie in the high chair with some toast and turn on the TV to a breakfast show, mostly ABC2’s new show now. Sometimes I do Willow’s hair because I can do it quicker.
While I have a shower, A gets dressed and ready to go, prodding Willow to do the same. If he hasn’t made lunches the night before, he does them now. Often he makes me a sandwich to eat in the car on the way to work.
They leave at about 7.30am, just as I’m getting out of the shower. I scramble around getting dressed, get Dexie dressed after cleaning him up from his breakfast. In the future I imagine that he will have a shower with me, but at the moment he tends to wander off, out of the shower. Once he is dressed, I get our lunches and bags ready by the door. I take him out to the car first and strap him in, then go back inside to get our bags and lunches.
When Dexie and I get home, A and Willow are usually already home. A is cooking dinner while Willow is vegged out on the couch. A sometimes borrows videos from the Junior School library for her. Once I get home I either veg out on the couch too or take both the children outside to play so that A can cook in peace. Sometimes I might cook but since A is fussier about food, I figure it is just as easy to let him prepare food the way he likes it.
We usually eat at the dinner table if I don’t have my uni stuff all over it. Then I start running the bath and organizing pyjamas for Dexie and Willow. A usually cleans up.
I bath the children, then once that is finished I had Willow over to A to get dressed, dress Dexie and give him a feed. We swap children again so A is putting Dexie to sleep in his cot in his room. I read two books to Willow, we have a Milo, then I sit with her until she falls asleep.
Once the children are both asleep, A and I have time to ourselves.
