When you start you with one idea…

A and I planned to spend the day looking for a new way to store clothes in our room. Since we no longer have a cot in our room, there is the space, plus storing clean washing on top of our respective dresser and tall boy isn’t terribly successful.

I was looking for something I’d seen ages ago, an old linen cupboard which has drawers inside, rather than another wardrobe – we don’t need the hanging space – or another tall boy – we’d just dump clothes on top again.

We had been to four different furniture shops when A suggested that instead of getting another piece of furniture, we should just install a built in wardrobe and be done with it. We could fit it out with more drawers. A great solution, but this means that we have to remove the false, lowered ceiling and replace it with one that follows the line of the roof. A did this in Willow’s room, so he is confident doing it in our room.

This means that we’ll have to replace the old carpet in our room, which, quite frankly is not a bad thing.

So, a leisurely Sunday looking for a piece of furniture turned into a decision to undertake minor renovations.

One of the shops we went to look at was the Early Settler Furniture Shop. I love the rustic style of furniture they sell. They have an instore cafe, which was handy because we were all starving. A scribbled on some post-its trying to work out what kind of configuration we’d need while we waited for our meals. The lady who served us made a lovely fuss of Willow and Dexie.

From there we wandered down to China Town. We wanted to go to the Central Markets, but we were too late, it had shut. An Asian supermarket was still open, so we got some cookies. I love the atmosphere of this part of the city.

Since I had been dangling the carrot of going to the playground to avoid bad behaviour from Willow, we walked back to the car and headed off for Heywood Park. It got a great rating on Playground Finder, so I was keen to see what it was like. Before hand we thought that a spot of gelati would go down nicely, so we stopped at Un Caffe Bar after a browse in the designer homewares shops at the end of King William Road. Darling A even gave me my bag (which I hang off the pram handle) when I went into The Body Shop in case I wanted to buy anything.

Willow and her gelati. I distinctly remember the first time I had gelati, I was 14 and we were on holiday in Darwin. What cosmopolitan children I am raising!

Dexie wants to get on the slide.

“Just have to push her a bit more…”

And we are nearly through!

Cheeky Dexie. After I took this photo, he walked away from me waving bye-bye! Who says that attachment parenting results in clingy children?!

Me consoling Dex after one of the hundreds of times he’d fallen over.

Dexie and Willow on the swings.

Developing those gross motor skills!

Dexie’s mullet. There is a bit of bogan in us all!

My Dex.

Adventurous Willow.

Willow was a bit frightened on this, but she got to the top eventually.

The playground was fantastic, set in a beautiful park. Reasonably clean toilets, great BBQ facilities, nice neighbourhood. While I was in the toilet I realised that a man and his son were in there too. I think he must have been confused though, cause I know I was in the right toilet!

LOvely!! LOL at Dexie’s mullet ‘there’s a bit of bogan in all of us’! hehe. Sienna had the worst mullet for a while. The back of her grew 3 times as fast as the top!
