Finally did it and stimulating the economy.

I have been meaning to donate blood for ages, but pregnancies, babies and breastfeeding have been in the way since 2003. Today was the perfect opportunity though, so I rang to make an appointment. After a bit of back and forth about breastfeeding, I said I’d be there at 10:30am.

I dropped the children off at FDC and drove into the city, where the blood bank is. Because I hadn’t donated in so long, the breastfeeding thing again and the blood pressure iss-ewes I had after Dexter, the pre-donation session took quite awhile. I felt a bit frustrated – anyone who knows me, knows that I am a strong advocate for breastfeeding, but in this situation, they wanted to hear that I was only really comfort feeding him and he got the majority of his nutrition from solid food. It’s true, he’s a good eater. He eats more than Willow most days, but I still felt somewhat disloyal when I said his feeds were just for comfort, as if they were not important. They are important to him and they are important to me.

Finally I was led through to the donating area and they took 470ml of my blood. Apparently the human body has about 5L, so that’s just under 10%. It took less time than I remembered from previous occasions I had donated, so I was soon out on the other side eating crackers and cheese and drinking iced coffee.

Then I went to IKEA. I had to do my duty as a citizen and boost the economy. I bought a quilt set and curtains for Dexter’s room. He is the poor second child, squeezed into the spare room, rather than being introduced to a newly painted room with new furniture as Willow was! The quilt set and curtains will make it a bit more his room rather than a storage slash room with a cot in it.

I then went to Rundle Mall, which was a bit crazy given that it is the first day of the school holidays. I had a few secret santa presents to get, presents for my friends from uni and I wanted to make a start on Xmas presents for Willow and Dexter.

Once I finished shopping, I picked the children up and went home, Willow and I put the Xmas tree up while Dexie practised climbing up and down the front step. A came home and erected the swing set, so that was very exciting for Willow and Dexter. Then I hit a wall, metaphorically speaking, I started to feel a bit ill, low blood sugar. I had some juice, made and ate dinner, ate some chocolate and drank 1L of water. Feeling better now. Bed is looking good.
