Sorry…

I haven’t posted in so long. We had Dexter’s party, then we went away, then work and uni got crazy. I only have one more assessment piece for Uni to do – a policy analysis, so I will take this chance to up date now!

Firstly, Dexter’s party. We had a fantastic turn out, I am honoured that so many wonderful friends came. We haven’t been doing the children’s party thing for very long, so I probably wasn’t as organised as I could have been. I bought way too much food and didn’t put enough out because there wasn’t enough room!

I made a Very Hungry Caterpillar cake and we had a general theme of bugs and butterflies. We debated doing a BBQ as we held it at a local park with a lovely BBQ area. A started cooking on one BBQ but it wasn’t hot enough so he had to move the whole lot to another BBQ!

Ok, food first: I thought about and planned these lady bug cupcakes for hours. I made about 18 of them and there were none leftover!

Same with these lamingtons. They didn’t quite turn out how I planned. I should have used regular dessicated coconut rather than the fancy stuff. Also highlights the problem with having parties in parks on hot days. If you look closely you can see the shimmer dust I used.

The cake. It was a bit slapdash in the end – I spent too much time on the lady bug cup cakes. Every one loved it though. I used the Magnolia Bakery recipe for it because it makes such a large amount – whacked it in a bundt tin, baked it, cut it in half and iced it. Little teddy sprinkles made the feet and purple jelly worms made the feelers.

Dexie smooshing the cake.

My beautiful boy getting his fill of food colouring and sugar! I’m so in love with him!

My girl, she had so much fun on this day, so many children to play with!
