cupcakes, cupckes!
Ok, I’m a bit over cupcakes now. I have been experimenting for Dexie’s birthday party recently, along with the usual baking that Willow and I do. Tonight I chopped the tops off the leftover cupcakes and made them into a faux bread and butter pudding.

I made these the other day – they are supposed to be stars on blue butter cream. The blue icing looked a bit too green though. I made the stars out of fondant which I coloured with yellow food colouring and rolled out. I made the butter cream from 1/2 cup of milk and 250gm of butter, plus enough icing sugar to get it to the right consistency. It split though, which is really annoying. I guess that is why I am doing the practice run – so that I can learn from my mistakes.
The cupcakes themselves are the Magnolia Bakery recipe. I highly recommend it, the cupcakes are moist, rich and dense.
These are the red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing and silver cachous.

This is what they look like uniced. They turned out a bit rubbery, but everyone at my old work loved them. One of my friends there (the one whose BBQ we went to on Saturday) wanted the recipe to make a cake for her friend’s birthday.

I wish I’d taken a photo of the worm cupcakes. Imagine a chocolate mud cupcake, iced with chocolate buttercream, dipped in chocolate biscuit crumbs and topped with a worm, or half a worm!
We got a delivery today from Blossom Sugar Art. I ordered some cookie cutters in the shapes of a snail, dragonfly, butterfly, caterpillar and a ladybug. I loved watching Willow open it – she wanted to make cookies right away!
