What an afternoon!

A friend from my old work invited me to a BBQ at her place today. A stayed behind to finish putting the mulch out that we got delivered ages ago, and I took the children. It was a fantastic afternoon, sitting around talking about nothing much in particular. I had said to my friend’s housemate that Adelaide being such a small place, I thought it was likely that someone would turn up that I knew.

I was right! An old colleague went to uni with my friend turned up. It was great to catch up with her. I was working with her while I was pregnant with Dexter, so it was a good time to catch up with her now that he is nearly one.

Willow had a ball with some of the girls there – she was an absolute charmer. I bought a big bubble blower to keep her occupied as there wouldn’t be any other children there. She had a blast with them, and picking green apricots off a tree.

It was a nice change, hanging out with a group of people who weren’t parents. While I was defined by my parenthood – a bit hard not to be since Dexter would not be held by anyone else, despite the lovely offers – it was refreshing to talk about something else.

I took some worm cupcakes, a watermelon and a bottle of moscato. Driving home I thought that it would have been nice to stay there, finish off my bottle of girly pop and see where the night took me, rather than going home because Dexter was too grumpy to make staying bearable.

Eeek, Willow had so much fun that when she got home she went straight to sleep on her little couch. She just woke up, had a cup of milk, then threw up everywhere!
