A reassuring phone call…
Nanna rang today to report that Poppa has recovered quite a lot. His pancreas is better, but it looks like his gall bladder will have to be removed. Unfortunatly since he is 74 and has diabetes, he might have to have surgery here in Adelaide. This was not good news for Poppa. Last time he came to the city was 9 years ago for a triple heart bypass and he said that being in the city was more stressful than the operation itself.
He has been showing signs of early dementia for years now, since before Mum died. Since he has been in hospital he said some hurtful things to Nanna, which makes my heart break for her. They have a very traditional relationship, sacrifices made on both parts.
It’s a good sign that they are willing to do the operation, that they think he will survive it. Nanna isn’t sure when it will happen, some time in the New Year.
