My weekend visually.
A little while ago a friend asked people to take a photo of their suburb. I thought I’d take this one step further and do a pictoral display of our weekend.
This is Willow having her breakfast.

Willow ready to go out.

For my friend, the view from our front door. You can’t see it very well, but it’s our suburb to the last line of trees – then it’s the River Torrens. On a clear day you can see the Adelaide Hills, but it was a rainy day.

Willow and I caught up with a friend and her 2 year old son at a cafe. The guy who runs it has children of his own and he’s obviously seen a niche in the market as it is a very kid friendly cafe. When we arrived it was full with mother’s groups. The food is fantastic, organic chicken and free-range eggs, and not overly expensive.

My friend and I then went to Spotlight where I bought some material to make a bag. Willow had a donut man to keep her occupied. Worked for about 10 minutes! She is wearing the beanie I made her from hemp fleece. I sewed a pink airplane on top, so it is her airplane hat.

That afternoon I went to see a lovely friend who gave W some size 3, 4 and 5 clothes. Forgot camera and photos. Willow was watching her girls dancing and I could see her brain trying to connect the movements they were making with the movements she can make with her body.
Friday night I thought I was going scrapbooking, but am easily confused. Instead, I stayed at home and made my bag.

This shows the phone pocket and key fob. As well as various junk…

This shows the zippered pocket. And more junk.

Saturday was lunch with Sam and his lovely Mum. We met at a cafe in Norwood (do you think I like cafes?!) and had very good coffee
The yellow balloon is one of my tricks I learnt from my Auntie for keeping children occupied. Willow had a lot of fun here, we were sitting near the toilets, so once she worked that out… She quite liked shutting the door, leading people to believe that the toilet was occupied when it wasn’t.

Saturday night we went out for dinner, tried a RedRock Noodle Bar near us which I’d heard had a kid’s playground. Theory being that if the child is occupied then parents can eat. I forgot the memory stick for the camera, so took this photo with my phone. The food was good, standard for RRNB, but there were a few older children on the playground who scared Willow, as well as the requsite bully. A tends to be more protective than me, whereas I know her limits and capabilities. It’s not an easy task to balance our different approaches sometimes. Willow had the time for her life after a rough start – so much so that the concept of leaving the playground brought on a lovely tantrum.

Sunday was a very lazy day. I did make these jester shoes for W.

The soles inside and out are pink cord, the outer is made from a felted cashmere jumper and the inner is overlock. Toes are stuffed with polyfill. The pattern was from Ottobre Spring 2007. Very cute and not too fiddly.

So, that is a fairly ordinary weekend for us.

Oh wow, your bag turned out fantastic! You will HAVE to bring it along when we catch up next time – which reminds me I need to pick a date for the next fabric crawl too.
The slippers are so cute too, I thought about making the boys some in the holidays, might be brave and let them go crazy with the fabric paint too!
