The end of another weekend.

The weeks have been flying by recently, on Tuesday I’ll be 25weeks pregnant. The other day I was thinking – as morbid as it may be – that if this little boy was born now, he’d have a good chance of surviving. Of course, I hope that he stays put for now!

I have to admit that I don’t much enjoy being pregnant. Apart from the whole hyperemesis thing, now that I’m actually getting bigger, my centre of gravity is changing and my belly is getting in the way. I’m often tired, my hips and back are killing me and my brain is fuzzy. What I do enjoy I’m getting a lot of, and that is kicks! After I gave birth to Willow I really missed them and even experienced some phantom kicks. It’s my own special bond with him that no-one else can have.

My friend S came over for lunch today. I’ve caught up with her a few times recently, but it’s been without Willow so she was keen for some face time with the W. Of course, when she arrived, W was horrendously shy, then she did a 180 into showing off. S is vegetarian, so it was a nice challenge to make a yummy lunch for her. I ended up doing a Roast Vegetable Salad with chunks of Parmeasan and a Spanikopita. I also made a Sticky Date pudding for dessert.

Speaking of food, I’ve been having some issues with my blood sugar levels. Now, I know that I have reactive hypoglycemia. It’s not usually an issue if I eat the right foods regularly. Of course, I haven’t been doing that with the hyperemesis. That didn’t seem to matter too much, but now I’m in a kind of limbo where the hyperemesis isn’t too bad, but if I don’t eat properly then I fall into a hypo very quickly.

A kind friend lent me her glucometer, so I have been able to keep a track of my blood sugar levels. My fasting level, on waking was 3.1 and 3.2 on Saturday and Sunday, anything below 4 is considered a hypo. So now I have a good reason for eating the rest of the sticky date pudding!

I can safely say that it is highly unlikely that I have Gestational Diabetes, even after only testing for a weekend. I feel quite vindicated because I thought that would be the case, but your body does strange things during pregancy. I tested my BSL two hours after eating lunch and doing nothing more strenuous than putting clothes into the washing machine and it was 4.4. My BSL before lunch was 5.2. Lunch was a massive plate of penne with chicken and avacado, flat white with 2 sugars. To clarify, if I did have Gestational Diabetes, then it would be much higher because my body wouldn’t be producing enough insulin to deal with the sugar I’d eaten.

Okay, I am now down in the bedroom, having left A snoring on the couch. He left the fan heater on from when he put W to bed but I turned that off and put the oil filled one on. I hate the noise it makes on starting up, I’m afraid that it is going to start throwing off sparks! Anyway, it is lovely to be all snuggled up in bed, with my laptop and the lovely wireless innerwebs.
