It’s a boy!

Today was the day for the ultrasound. I wanted to know, in order – that everything was okay, that this baby didn’t have a choledochal cyst, and his sex. I was quite worried that because I’ve been so sick, he would be affected, particularly his kidneys because I’ve not been drinking enough fluids.

Everything was good, he is measuring at 20w5d – I am 19w3d – no cyst, and he is a he. In some places, I’d get flamed for saying this, but I really wanted a boy. I am of course, overwhelmingly happy that he is healthy. It goes without saying that it was my main concern. But to find out that he is a boy was the icing on the cake.

Willow was funny during the scan. She was insistant that the gel the ultrasound tech put on my stomach was sauce! A did a great job of keeping her amused. She was waving to the TV screen saying “hello baby!”

Afterwards I had a home visit from my midwife. The program that I’m going through allocates a specific, consistant midwife who will do home visits for as many of the visits as possible. The only problem is that today we were running late from the ultrasound and I didn’t have time to do a quick tidy up. Oh well. She gave me the name of an anaesthetist who does hypnosis. I gave him a call and begged for an appointment in 2-3 weeks time. The hospital is so busy that he rarely does individual consults, but instead does a trial where women listen to a hypnosis CD. I said that I’d rather not participate in a trial, I just want to feel like eating again! Unfortunatly the hospital that I am booked into has such a good reputation that women will bypass other hospitals to attend this one.

The midwife also does homebirths, a concept that really appeals to me. Unfortunatly A is not keen on the idea. I may, however, labour for as long as possible at home and call the midwife to come here and just not make it to the hospital. She has all the necessary equipment (oxygen, medication to preven hemmorhaging) if anything went wrong. Ah, I dunno. I want to do tonnes of research on it, but I think I might end up frustrated.

Here is a photo of our little man.
