A semi-organised working mother’s Sunday night.

Posted May 6th, 2007 by candi

I’m trying to make my mornings easier by getting organised at night.

  • Bath child.
  • Send said child off to bed with child’s father while sitting down at the computer.
  • Veg out at computer for a little while.
  • Get up, go to kitchen, put iPod on, and get pasta on to boil.
  • Load both dishwasher drawers and put another load of washing on.
  • Drain pasta and add bolognaise sauce while trying not to be sick. Go through plastics drawer and marvel at how one can spend $300 on containers in 3 years only to end up with 10 bottoms and five tops, two of which match. Put pasta in containers and the rest in bowls which will do for tomorrow and Tuesday.
  • Organise clothes for self and child for tomorrow.
  • Finish writing letter to friend in Melbourne that was owed 3 months ago.
  • Write SMS to another friend but realise it is too late to send it.
  • Put cheque in Envelope to send to Monash for deferring psych subject.
  • Collapse into computer chair exhausted.

Willow and I had a lovely lunch with a friend and her two daughters today. We went to a cafe that is very child friendly, the owner has children himself and he has outfitted a corner of his cafe with a blackboard, rugs and toys. Makes a nice change from having to be ultra cautious about everything that Willow does!

She blew my mind today though. At this cafe, I had to go behind the counter to put my PIN in the machine. W followed me and saw a sign on the wall reminding workers to WASH their hands. She looked at it and said “Wash!” My mum used to tell me that I could read when I was two, she got sick of me asking what signs said, and encouraged me to read them myself. I’ve never done anything like that with W and it’s only in the past 3 months that she will stay still long enough for us to read a book to her.

When I got home, A told me the bad news. My laptop was as good as dead. My trusty Sony Vaio which I’ve had for longer than I’ve known A, longer than W has been alive was gone.

The good thing was that he said as a combined Mother’s Day and birthday present he would get me a new laptop. It wouldn’t be as fancy as his, but he’s going to put together a good one for me. I just need it to do a bit of word processing, send emails, get online at a decent speed and be able to muck around in Photoshop every now and then. I’m not interested in running any RPGs or playing secondlife, or even Sims. My laptop had been slowing down considerably in it’s old age, I really noticed it after being on A’s computer. Even though we have broadband, I might as well have been on dial-up because my laptop was THAT slow!

On the morning sickness front, I have been feeling about 75% lately, if 25% is having to go to hospital and go on a drip and 100% is not feeling sick at all. I filled my Maxolon and Stematil scripts. I asked the pharmacist which is least likely to make me drowsy. She said the Maxolon, and that I should only take the Stemetil if I was going to bed. I said that there wasn’t much point taking it and going to bed if I’m taking it to make me feel well enough to eat. She just looked at me.

Bloc Party. I am really into their latest album. Their music is perfect for getting housework done to, it makes me move fast! I like lots of different music, mostly stuff with lots of bass, but angry or depressed songs. A laughed at me one day when I said that I was trying to find upbeat songs on my iPod to make a playlist. I couldn’t really find too many. My favourite band will always be U2 though.

Well, this semi-organised working mother had better get herself to bed.
